Job Description
The Director of Business Administration has responsibility for managing the church’s finances, Facilities Operations, Human Resources, Information Technology, and directing administrative efforts so that these functions complement and reinforce the strategic vision, direction, and mission of the church.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Management – Serve as the Financial Officer, providing the ministry with sound fiscal oversight and direction in all financial functions while working in collaboration with the Strategic Leadership Team and Church Council Treasurer in fulfillment of the duties set forth in the Constitution and Bylaws, including:
a. Manage budget and cash flow in coordination with department directors to enable accountability for all income receipts, deposit and expense control management.
b. Administer banking, financing, leases, and insurance products and decisions to provide maximum ministry effectiveness.
c. Manage payroll services, accounts payable, credit card and bank reconciliation and school financial services.
d. Development of appropriate compensation structures and market-based salary ranges for each level of employee classification, and implementation of strategies for salary reviews as part of the annual budgeting process.
e. Facilitation of the annual budget process in collaboration with the Strategic Leadership Team.
f. Ensure compliance with local and national governing agencies, accounting principles, and relevant regulations.
g. Provide financial reports and updates to church leadership and department directors to support decision-making.
h. Works with leadership to obtain or restructure long/short-term financing when deemed necessary.
i. Schedules financial audits or reviews periodically.
j. Responsible for prompt filing of tax reports and other required documents.
k. Facilitate discussions for time critical financial decisions with appropriate leaders.
Facilities Management - Provides the ministry with oversight and direction to the Facility team for all aspects of facility and property management:
a. Supervise the facilities team responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness, and safety of the church campuses.
b. Collaborate with the Strategic Leadership team to prioritize maintenance and building efforts and provide reports on progress.
c. Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and negotiations for facility-related services.
d. Manage the development and implementation of a comprehensive security plan for all campuses.
e. Facilitate planning for our ongoing campus development to ensure future facility acquisitions and expansions are consistent with the vision and values that drive SPLC’s ministry strategy. This includes collaboration with the Strategic Leadership Team on property purchases, leases, designs, and construction of future facilities or improvements to existing facilities.
f. Manage the development and implementation of a comprehensive facilities usage policy and calendar.
g. Oversee risk management and safety issues.
h. Maintains inventory of church property and major equipment.
Human Resources - Provides the ministry with oversight of all aspects of human resource management:
a. Develop, maintain and administer personnel policies and procedures.
b. Review wage and salary structures, professional development and training, personnel practice and benefits and makes recommendations to the Sr. Pastor.
c. Hire/terminate support staff in consultation with Sr. Pastor and department directors.
d. Manage HR matters needing financial analysis such as: Health insurance and benefits, compensation and salary recommendations, and other items as requested and collaborate with the Sr. Pastor.
e. Maintains personnel records, insurance records and comply with federal and state labor laws.
Technology Infrastructure – Provides oversight and direction to the technology infrastructure that will create operational efficiencies and allow for continued growth and innovation in ministry initiatives such as:
a. Accounting Software and databases
b. Facilities management software
c. Productivity software/hardware for employees and classrooms.
d. Vendor relationships and contracts for technology related services.
e. Ensure office equipment and computer systems are maintained/backed up properly.
f. Facilitate periodic review of computer systems and office equipment.
Collaboration and Ministry Support – Provides the Senior Pastor and Strategic Leadership Team with confident financial analysis to align ministry resources with ministry goals.
a. Ensure department Directors have budget clarity and accountability through regular meetings and/or reports (at least monthly)
b. Assists the Senior Pastor to verify that all requirements of liability for personnel and congregational assets are kept in good order.
c. Serves on the strategic leadership team at the invitation of the Senior Pastor, working to advance the mission of the church through strategic planning conversations.
Position Qualifications & Skills
a. Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or business administration.
b. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in church or non-profit financial management/business administration is preferred.
c. Working knowledge of GAAP and FASB best practices for church financial management.
d. Working knowledge of Department of Labor regulations.
e. Working knowledge of sound Human Resources practices.
f. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of accounting software, as well as Microsoft Office. (Knowledge of Shelby Systems and PayChex Payroll software, a plus).
g. Organized, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
h. Proven ability to take projects from beginning to end.
i. Relates well to all kinds of people, builds effective relationships, communicates effectively both interpersonally and corporately.
j. Work is generally M-F 8 am - 5 pm at our campus located in downtown Fort Worth. Occasional Sunday's will be required.
